WWW Wednesday is a weekly MEME hosted by Taking on a World of Words answering the following questions:

1. What are you currently reading?
2. What did you recently finish reading?
3. What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently reading:

Know My Name by Chanel Miller
This is one of the most difficult reading experiences I’ve had to date, and I wish everyone would read this book. The way the media and society in general treats sexual assault victims can be so disgusting, and seeing how many people are affected by these acts of violence is sickening.

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik (reread)
I put this one on hold in order to fully catch up with Yona of the Dawn, and now that that’s happened we’re back on track. I tend to read this story slowly, and this time around is no exception. I always just want to fully absorb the story.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
I am seriously not enjoying this. Wow.

Recently Finished

Ran the Peerless Beauty Volume 1 by Ammitsu
Since finding out I was reading this one, my husband will not stop referring to me as “Ren the Peerless Beauty” *insert eye roll here*. I think I went into this one with the wrong expectations, but now that I know what to expect I imagine I’ll enjoy this series a lot more going forward.

Lovesick Ellie Volume 7 by Fujimomo
I needed a pick me up after those last few chapters of Yona of the Dawn, and this is what I turned to and it did not disappoint. I can always rely on Lovesick Ellie to put me in a good mood.

Coraline by Neil Gaiman (reread)
Coraline is a story that I feel like I want to like more than I actually like. I think the premise is great, but the execution doesn’t quite do it for me.

Reading Next

Oresama Teacher Volume 2 by Izumi Tsubaki (reread)
I made a huge purchase of this whole series and now I feel I need to get a move on with it in order to justify my spendings.

My Calamity Jane by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows, and Brodi Ashton
This’ll be my next audiobook, probably. I’m a bit hesitant about this one because while I love My Lady Jane, I didn’t like My Plain Jane, and the premise of this book doesn’t particularly interest me, but I’m hoping I can work past that.

What are you currently reading? What have you just finished reading? What are you planning to read next? I’d love to hear it! As well as any of your thoughts on the books above. Happy reading! 💗

Currently reading:

Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell
This is my current audiobook, it’s super interesting to learn about what sort of conditions and settings are necessary for success.

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik (reread)
Still reading this one, for whatever reason I feel like my days have been very full so I haven’t made as much time for this reread as I would have liked.

Yona of the Dawn Volume 11 by Mizuho Kusanagi (reread)
When I first started my reread of Yona of the Dawn this was one of the volumes I looked forward to getting to the most, and it is not disappointing.

Recently Finished

Sailor Moon Eternal Edition 3 by Naoko Takeuchi (reread)
This was my least favourite volume so far! It just read like a bad episode of The X-Files.

Anna K by Jenny Lee (reread)
I have a feeling Anna K is going to be one of those books that I love more and more with each reread. Plus I’m super thrilled this is getting a sequel! I’ll definitely be rereading this again just before it’s released!

Yona of the Dawn Volume 10 by Mizuho Kusanagi (reread)
I was really surprised that I loved a volume that focused on Tae-jun, he starts off as a pretty despicable character, but after this volume he really grew on me.

Reading Next

Sailor Moon Eternal Edition 4 by Naoko Takeuchi (reread)
I seem to have trouble motivating myself to continue with this series, but what’s keeping me going is knowing I’ll eventually get to the Sailor Stars arc.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
I’m going to pick this up as soon as I’m done my reread of Spinning Silver. I’ve tried my best to avoid reading any reviews, but it’s been difficult because it’s getting a lot of buzz!

The One by John Marrs
This’ll be my next audiobook once I’m done with Outliers. Apparently it’s full-cast so I’m looking forward to it!

Currently reading:

Age of Empyre by Michael J. Sullivan
I’ve made it to the final book and so far I’m not loving it. This last instalment is incredibly cheesy and the romance is pretty awful. I also just cannot get over how inaccurate I feel the development of writing is. I’m pretty disappointed and don’t really see this novel redeeming itself for me.

Trade Me by Courtney Milan
I think this novel is making it apparent to me that the only adult romances I really enjoy are of the comedic sort. This is just a bit too angsty and dramatic for my tastes. Still, I do find this premise really interesting and I am rooting for the couple.

Joy at Work by Marie Kondo and Scott Sonenshein
I’m still reading this! I’m actually planning to finish it today. Since picking this up I’ve tried implementing a few changes to my daily life and I really do find some of these tips helpful.

Recently Finished

Lovesick Ellie Volume 6 by Fujimomo
This was easily my favourite volume of Lovesick Ellie so far. I really like “love triangles” when I like both potential love interests and that’s definitely the case here.

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
I was pretty pleased by my reread of Sense and Sensibility. I think the story is of the unconventional variety and I really like the direction the plot goes in.

Yona of the Dawn Volume 2 by Mizuho Kusanagi
This really is a series that gets better upon reread, it becomes a lot more apparent how much growth each character goes through, and I enjoy watching the art improve.

Lovesick Ellie Volume 7 by Fujimomo
I was going to drag reading this series out (that’s my bad habit, but only when it comes to manga) because I wasn’t sure when it was going to end and I wanted it to last which doesn’t even make sense given rereading is a thing but after finding out that the series is ending this month (hopefully translations aren’t too far behind with it) I decided that waiting it out is pointless. Plus the way things ended in the last volume has me extremely eager to read this one.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
Still waiting for my copy in the mail, but I imagine once I get it I won’t be able to resist not reading it.

Anna K by Jenny Lee
Did you know this is getting a sequel? I literally just found out by looking this up on Goodreads just now. Anyways, technically I’m currently (re)reading this now, but I decided I wanted to switch to the audiobook, so this’ll be my next audiobook.

What are you currently reading? What have you just finished reading? What are you planning to read next? I’d love to hear it! As well as any of your thoughts on the books above. Happy reading! 💗

I’m warning you now, I’m in some strange sort of reading mood.

Currently reading:

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
I’m on the cusp of a reading slump, and the only thing I can think to do to get me out of it is to pick up Spinning Silver. This book means the world to me, and it’s my absolute favourite. I’ve read it four times but put off writing a review of it for the past two years because of how much it means to me. I think with this reread I’ll finally be ready to review it.

Yona of the Dawn Volume 1 by Mizuho Kusanagi
If you’re wondering WTF I’m doing given that I just finished volume 8, the answer is that I am now buddy rereading this with a friend of mine. I did want to properly review the entire series so I’m up for starting over. Also, I promise not to flood my blog/goodreads with reviews.

Joy at Work by Marie Kondo and Scott Sonenshein
I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’ll read any book Marie Kondo writes. I also have a love of tidying up and this book is making me want to do all the tidying!

Yona of the Dawn Volumes 6, 7, & 8 by Mizuho Kusanagi
Like I mentioned above, I’m in a really weird reading mood. I feel like I want to read everything and nothing all at once. I’ll think I’m in the mood for a certain book, pick it up, start reading it, and then decide it’s not actually what I want. Have you ever experienced that? Right now the only thing that really seems to be sticking and that I’m not forcing myself with has been Yona of the Dawn. We answered some big questions in volume 8, and I really love this story, the art, and the characters.

Yona of the Dawn Volume 2 by Mizuho Kusanagi
Gotta keep up with that buddy read! 😉

The Henna Wars by Adiba Jaigirdar
I’ve been really looking forward to this one and its the perfect book to pick up during the Asian Readation. Plus my library hold on the audiobook came in, so I better hurry it up 😅.

My head is not on straight, and I totally forgot about my WWW post, so apparently you’re getting two posts today!

Currently reading:

When You Trap a Tiger by Tae Keller
I’m about 20% into this and I’m still not sure what I would say if I were to write a synopsis for this book. Keller’s writing is superb though, and I do hope she eventually branches out into other age ranges.

The Mahabharata: A Modern Retelling by Carole Satyamurti
I was not planning to reread this this month, or this year, or in the next couple of years really, because this is a chunker and not exactly easy/light reading, but then I started rereading The Kite Runner and for whatever reason it just really made me want to pick this up. So here we are, I’m about 10% in and I’m still getting the names mixed up, but I’m enjoying the journey nonetheless.

Sailor Moon Eternal Edition Volume 3 by Naoko Takeuchi
I seriously think this is one of those cases where the anime is significantly better than the manga. I’m also doing this series a disservice by rereading it at the same time I’m rereading Yona of the Dawn which is a much better shoujo fantasy but hey, I bought all the Eternal Editions so now I’m going to read them!

Pippa Park Raises Her Game by Erin Yun
This was so sticking cute and I actually posted my review of it today (click the title link to check it out). I’m so happy to have found a middle grade author that I really enjoy and I’ll definitely be checking out Yun’s future novels.

Lovesick Ellie Volume 5 by Fujimomo
I’m on a manga kick right now. Once a year I have this really strong urge to just binge all the manga, but over the past couple of years I’ve tampered this down in order to drag out my favourite series, and made an attempt to read manga more spaced out over the year. This year I’m giving in because it’s stupid not to, and I really want to read for me this year. This was actually my least favourite volume of Lovesick Ellie so far because a character was introduced for what seemed like the sole purpose of shaking up Ellie and Ohmi’s relationship. I’m pleased with how the matter was resolved though, and Volume 6 is great so far.

Yona of the Dawn Volume 5 by Mizuho Kusanagi
I said I’d take things slow and aim to drag this series out for a while, but then this volume came around and my favourite dragon made his first appearance. Clearly I have no self-control because I finished this volume in one day and now I’m obsessed with this series all over again.

Reading Next

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
I think I’m cheating by having this on my reading next because I’ll probably pick this up today. I’m ready for my next Austen novel and I know I’ll enjoy this more than Mansfield Park!

Yona of the Dawn Volume 6 by Mizuho Kusanagi
This is also probably happening today, will I read the whole thing in one sitting? Only time will tell.

Anna K by Jenny Lee
Anna K probably also shouldn’t be in this spot because technically I’m currently reading it. I decided to put it down for a bit though, because I was reading it physically but decided I much prefer the audiobook. I’ll listen to Anna K once I’ve finished Sense and Sensibility.

What are you currently reading? What have you just finished reading? What are you planning to read next? I’d love to hear it! As well as any of your thoughts on the books above. Happy reading! 💗

Currently reading:

Giant Days Volume 10 by John Allison, Max Sarin, & Julia Madrigal
It’s about time I continued on with this series, especially since the final volume is coming out this year. It’s great being back with these characters.

Pippa Park Raises Her Game by Erin Yun
I’m getting a bit of a head start on the Asian Readathon by reading this, it’s a reimagining of Great Expectations, not that that means much to me since I haven’t read the classic. This story is cute so far.

Love Without Borders by Angela Braniff
I follow Angela on YouTube and love hearing about her and her big family. This is a pretty short audiobook so I’m aiming to have it finished before the month is over, wish me luck!

Recently Finished

Heidi by Johanna Spyri
I forgot just how heavy handed the religion is in this novel, not that that particularly bothers me or anything. Heidi is a really cute story that makes me want to visit Switzerland.

Age of Death by Michael J. Sullivan
Unfortunately this was my least favourite novel of the series so far. It’ hard to talk about this without spoilers.

Yona of the Dawn Volume 3 by Mizuho Kusanagi
I did it! *self-high-five* This was just as good as I remembered it being and I’m excited to continue on in the series.

Trade Me by Courtney Milan
I have a really hard time finding diverse romance novels (am I the only one? I’d love to hear your recommendations if you have any) and this is one of the few I know of with an asian lead. I’m reading this for the Asian Readathon and looking forward to it!

Sigh, Gone by Phuc Tran
I’ve really enjoyed the non-fiction Flatiron Books has put out in the past so naturally I’m looking forward to this one, it also helps that I’ve heard really great things.

When You Trap a Tiger by Tae Keller
I read Keller’s The Science of Breakable Things and really enjoyed it so I’ve been really looking forward to picking this one up.

Currently reading:

We Have Always Been Here by Sara Habib
I’m making a more active effort to read non-fiction this year, and my library hold for this came yesterday so I decide to give it a go. So far I’m not loving this (the writing is a bit amateurish) but I’m going to follow through with it because I do enjoy reading about experiences different from my own.

Time of Our Lives by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka
Have you read the synopsis for this book? Because what it doesn’t say is that the female protagonist has a boyfriend. I’ve been so tempted to DNF this because so much of it is not working for me, but I’m going to power through.

Yona of the Dawn Volume 3 by Mizuho Kusanagi
Yup, I’m still reading this. Stay tuned to see if this appears next week too! XD (I only have two chapters left so I think I will finish this before next week though.)

Crushed by Eliza Crewe
This is the second novel in the Soul Eaters trilogy and it was fantastic. This was a reread for me and I think I can safely say that Soul Eaters is one of my favourite series ever. If you haven’t read this and you enjoy paranormal fantasy and hilarious, sarcastic characters then I highly recommend you give it a try!

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
This was another reread for me, I really enjoy Wilde’s writing and this concept is one of my favourites ever. Plus that ending is perfection.

The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi
I didn’t even realise this was a book until someone pointed out to me that the MinaLima edition of it was the latest MinaLima book. It was an… interesting(?) reading experience. I’m not sure who I’d recommend this to, but I also wouldn’t be opposed to reading it to any future children of mine.

Reading Next

Invisible Differences by Julie Dachez & Mademoiselle Caroline
Invisible Differences is an inside look at what living with Asperger’s is like. I’m reading this for review!

The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin
I didn’t love the short story this novel was based off of, so I’m not promising I won’t DNF this, but I definitely want to give it a shot because I love N.K. Jemisin’s writing.

Age of Death by Michael J. Sullivan
This is going to be my next audiobook after We Have Always Been Here. I’m sad that the Legends of the First Empire series is coming to a close, but looking forward to where the story is going!

Currently reading:

You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkaken
This is my current audiobook (I love the audiobooks for GH & SP’s books). I’m not too far into it, but I’m enjoying it so far. It’s not your typical thriller and I like it a lot for that.

Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett
This is a reread for me, and so far I’m not enjoying it nearly as much this second time around! The romance is sweet, but not quite as cute as I’d like it to be.

Yona of the Dawn Volume 3 by Mizuho Kusanagi
Yona of the Dawn is my favourite manga of all time. This is also a reread for me, I’m trying to catch up to the newer volumes and I have quite a long way to go. We’re slowly collecting the members of Yona’s gang and I’m excited for everyone to get together.

Recently Finished

Happily Ever After & Everything In Between by Debbie Tung
This was a really cute read, and it put a smile on my face. This graphic novel is full of snippets of Debbie’s life with her husband and their cute moments together.

Ignite the Sun by Hannah C Howard
How beautiful is this cover? I definitely picked this one up because of the cover. Ignite the Sun is a YA fantasy taking place in a world where the sun is a myth. Unfortunately I wasn’t a huge fan of this one, it was lacking the depth I need from my stories.

Age of Legends by Michael J Sullivan
This is the fourth book in The Legends of the First Empire Series, and I think it might be my least favourite so far. I don’t think that’s a popular opinion, and this was actually my husband’s favourite book so far. Mawyndulë was especially awful in this instalment.

Reading Next

Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
A few years ago I marathoned almost all Jane Austen’s books, but lost steam during my read of Mansfield Park. So, Mansfield Park is the only Jane Austen novel I haven’t yet read. I’m reading one Austen novel per month this year and this is next on my list. I’m also low-key participating in the Reading Rush and this fits the prompt to read a book with a house on the cover.

Lovesick Ellie Volume 3 by Fujimomo
I’ve been really enjoying this series, it follows a young woman named Ellie, who’s an adorable weirdo and is crushing on the most popular boy in school. For the Reading Rush I’m going to use this book for the challenge to read a book in one place.

Crushed by Eliza Crewe
This is a reread for me, and the second book in the Soul Eater Series. I mean, technically I’m currently reading this, but I put it on-hold so I could read it during the Reading Rush for the challenge read a book that will put a smile on your face. I love the Soul Eater series, it follows a half-demon named Meda and she is the snarky, sarcastic, anti-hero of my dreams.

If you’re wondering, for the last Reading Rush challenge, to read a book that takes place in a world you’d love to live in, I’m going to read The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

What are you currently reading? What have you just finished reading? What are you planning to read next? I’d love to hear it! As well as any of your thoughts on the books above. Happy reading! ❤
